The Lesley Thomas Photography team were delighted to be invited by the very lovely Angie & Phil Gilmore to cover their most special day at Rivington Hall Barn, situated 8 miles north west of Bolton, capturing every moment from Bridal Prep to Ceremony to First Dance and then to Boogie Wonderland and beyond along with Manchester’s favourite function band ‘The Midnight Cats’, who had all ages funking the night away.
The rich history of Rivington Hall Estate goes back to before the Norman Conquest in 1066 when it is believed that it existed as a Manor. Our photograph features Rivington Hall Manor House, the earliest mention of which was in 1477, with the present red brick frontage being built in 1774. It makes an impressive backdrop for formal wedding group shots as demonstrated by our photo above with the Gilmores and friends outside the Hall in June 2016!
Rivington Hall Barn and Manor House are located in Lever Park which was gifted to the people of Bolton by Lord Leverhulme, and which been a country park since 1904. The menu for the grand opening on Wednesday 18th May, 1904 featured Prawns in Aspic, yummy!
The park, which covers about 160 hectares, includes terraced gardens with walks, water features, a Japanese garden with pool, a scale model of Liverpool Castle, and an ornate pigeon tower with a sewing room on the top floor! Much of the park is still in the process of restoration but is very worthy of a visit.
Since 1953, Rivington Hall has been home to the Salmon family and under their careful stewardship they have been holding events in the adjacent Hall Barn ever since, along with running the lovely Tea Room & Gift Shop in the smaller Barn, also known as the Great House Barn. Michael even played a gig with his band at Rivington Barn in a universe, far, far away!
